young again

So I wasn't blessed with the smoothest hair, it has always been really coarse and brittle. I like to blame it on my dad, he is Iranian and his side of the family has super thick black hair which I inherited. I have always envied both my sisters smooth, sleek hair. I'm constantly battling the frizz with mine and I do believe it's part of the reason I became a hairdresser in the first place... all those years of messing with my own sometimes impossible hair. Don't get me wrong, I do love my crazy natural hair, but sometimes I want it to be sleek and straight. I was just discussing this issue with a friend of mine today and she asked me what to do about the frizz and I told her "that's what hair product is for, lots of it!" You can imagine how excited I was when Kevin Murphy came out with YOUNG.AGAIN, Immortelle infused treatment oil. It protects against heat, conditions, adds shine and improves hair strength. I use mine before I blow dry and style and I even use it throughout the day when my hair starts feeling dull and dry or frizzy. I also admit I love to shampoo my hair... everyday. I keep it hydrated with Kevin Murphy Balancing Wash (for all the everyday shampoo-ers) and a combination of Hydrate Me Rinse mixed with Born Again Treatment. My hair ritual is now complete with Young.Again, the perfect cocktail for shiny, soft, smooth hair :)

golden years

I'm in love with these golden waves Felicity Davis has done on the Kevin Murphy website (Lovekevinmurphy.com)
How cool, they used the Kevin Murphy wave clips and some gold pigment while in the rollers to make the hair golden. I LOVE THAT.

I can't wait to try something like this out at the salon, I haven't gotten to play with the Kevin Murphy Rollers, but i'm super excited now.

summertime

Ah, I know I say this everytime, but it has been too long... and again I am a slacker about updating this! I can't believe it's already summertime and it's already July! This summer has been awesome already and all about friends coming into town, visiting friends elsewhere and also traveling to do a bit of work as well!

I went to Savannah, Georgia to do hair and makeup for American Gold's FW'11 collection, City of God. I had such a great time, and was so excited to work with one of my favorite websites, SHOPSPANISHMOSS.COM. The clothes were beautiful and I am super excited for the line to come out. We shot all around Savannah, Georgia and on Tybee Island for two days. Suzanne and Vincent from Spanish Moss are so awesome and it was a blast working with them and the lovely Scarlett, who modeled. Also, be sure to check out Suzanne's blog, smvblog.com! Here is the editorial, enjoy and be on the lookout for these clothes in September on the site.

For this shoot I used Kevin Murphy Easy Rider after curling the hair for soft waves and Kevin Murphy Powder Puff and Gritty Business for volume and a bit of texture.
My Favorite makeup products from the shoot were Makeup Forever's Aqua Cream in Silver and Intense Blue, they glide on really smooth and are super vibrant and don't smudge! I also love Makeup Forever's Matte Eyeshadow in Tangerine which I used for a smoky cat eye.

Well I hope everyone is having a nice summer, I'll be sure to post some new blogs from a few other shoots I worked on this summer :)

My favorite scene from the movie Shampoo. Julie Christie had the original "long bob"

FLOWERS IN HER HAIR

Now that the weather is nicer outside I want to wear flowers and bows in my hair, these were some photos of my favorites :)

I am in looove with the Haight Street Daisy Headband from Spanish Moss Vintage, it also comes in a pretty soft brown color as well. Soo adorable and perfect for curly beachy summer hair :)

When I am shopping for Hair Bows I have found quite a few in thrift stores/vintage stores as well as scarves that I tie into bows. It's also really fun to make them yourself, but if you aren't into that American Apparel has a ton of bows for sale, and Etsy carries some really pretty vintage flowery headbands/hats. It's always nice if you are bored with your hair or growing it out to try some hair accessories to change it up :)

This is my favorite little pink blossom hair clip from american apparel.
I also really love this blue velvet bow from american apparel which reminds me of Anna Karina in A Woman is a Woman

Now go put on your lace summer dresses and your new flowery headbands and bows!
